The Stained Lily Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CBCB CBCB DBDB

WHEN first the maiden fair I eyedA
This world is a world of grief aloneB
A lily she held and a rose besideA
But I was doomed her lot to moanB
-
The rose was gain's and the lily was stain'dC
This world is a world of grief aloneB
And from that hour her beauty wanedC
And I was left her lot to moanB
-
The lily was stain'd when the rose was gain'dC
This world is a world of grief aloneB
And from that hour her life star wanedC
And I was left her lot to moanB
-
Ah never more in my sight she'll standD
This world is a world of grief aloneB
With a lily bright in her lily white handD
And I am doomed her lot to moanB
