A
Who lilts away the summer dayB
Also the winter nightC
The merriest bird with rapture stirr'dD
Could never yet surpassE
The melody awaken'd byF
The Seaton Terrace lassE
-
Chorus Her like is not in hall or cotG
And you would vainly passE
From Tweed to Wear for one to peerH
The Seaton Terrace lassE
-
She's graceful as a lily wandI
Right modest too is sheJ
And then ye'll search in vain the landK
To find a busier beeJ
Like silver clear her iron gearH
Like burnished gold the brassE
For tidiness there's none to peerH
The Seaton Terrace lassE
-
Chorus Her like is not etcL
-
More restless than a clucking henM
About her Minnie stirsN
'Go jewel knit your fancy netO
And I will scour the floors '-
'Enjoy the day a down the wayB
Where greenest grows the grassE
No help I need ' replies with speedP
The Seaton Terrace lassE
-
Chorus Her like is not etcL
-
She'll knit or sew she'll bake or brewQ
She'll wash the clothes so cleanR
The very daisy pales besideS
Her linen on the greenR
Then what she'll do with ease she'll doQ
And still her manner hasT
A charm would gar a stoic wooQ
The Seaton Terrace lassE
-
Chorus Her like is not etcL
-
Discomfort flies her dark brown eyesU
And when the men folk comeV
All black and weary from the pitW
They find a welcome homeX
Her brothers tease her and a prideS
The father feeleth asT
Again he meets again he greetsY
The Seaton Terrace lassE
-
Chorus Her like is not etcL
-
When day is past and night at lastZ
Begins to cloud the dellA2
She'll take her skiel and out she'll stealB2
And meet me at the wellA2
Then oh how fleet the moments sweetC2
Yet fleeter shall they passE
That night the Bebside laddie wedsE
The Seaton Terrace lassE
-
Chorus Her like is not in hall or cotG
And vainly would you passE
From Tweed to Wear for one to peerH
The Seaton Terrace lassE
