me and baseA
Before on my head you cruelly treadB
Give ear to my caseA
-
A lily bell rare my charms were laid bareC
And lo at the sightD
In a mantle of gold a delight to beholdE
Love danced in delightD
-
To him I was dear ah me it was clearF
That nothing aboveG
Below or around by Love could be foundH
So precious to loveG
-
That little white flower which gildeth the hourI
When March winds raveJ
The snowdrop as clear from stain might appearF
But look's too graveJ
-
The crocus a drest in her sun given vestK
On Spring's live mouldE
To her heart's delight might sparkle as brightD
But look's too boldE
-
No zephyr did woo a hyacinth blueL
With bearing so fineM
No daffodil e'er did view in the mereF
A face so divineM
-
The tulip so gay a cheek might displayN
In deeper hues dyedO
But where the sweet smell could any one tellP
The dancer enjoyedQ
-
The pink had a bloom as rich in perfumeR
To make the heart gladS
But where was the grace to rivet the gazeT
The lily bell hadS
-
Not even the rose the richest that blowsU
Could Love then preferI
And the pansy so sweet bowed down at her feetV
In homage to herI
-
This swore Love and sworn away I was tornW
His pleasure to beX
But ere a day past away I was castY
He cared not for meX
-
Unheeded I pined my sweets did the windZ
No longer perfumeR
To vile turned the pure the sweet turned a sourI
Ah such was my doomR
-
You turn up your nose just think of my woesU
Though base to beholdE
Just think ere you tread ere you crush my poorA2
headB
Just think what I've toldE
