AH me my heart is like to breakB
The envied rose upon my cheekC
The blood red rose is cold and bleakC
Now Robin slighteth meD
-
Alas a shadow lone and paleE
I all unheard my lot bewailE
He listens to another's taleE
He hath no ear for meD
-
Could he but look upon my griefF
Would he not try to bring reliefF
I feel my days below are briefF
So deep the wound I dreeG
-
I trail about I know not howH
I like a thief slink down the rowG
For well behind my back I knowG
The rest all laugh at meD
-
The rest to one the other winkI
Whenever down the row I slinkI
Their hearts are filled with glee to thinkI
How he my bane should beD
-
The very bairns have caught their wordsJ
As notes are caught by mocking birdsJ
By jibes are rent my bosom chordsK
And grief is killing meD
-
I feel my days on earth are briefF
Ah could he look upon my griefF
Would he not try to bring reliefF
Would he not kinder beD
-
I dreamed last night to me he cameL
A blush was on his cheek for shameL
He took my hand he breathed my nameL
He gave such looks to meD
-
Such looks No sun will rise to setM
When I forget those looks forgetM
Those star bright eyes those eyes of jetM
That wiled my heart from meD
-
The vision fled and I was leftN
To mourn a lot of hope bereftN
To mourn what won my heart and cleftN
And oh the agonyD
-
Dear Robin Dear Without a peerG
And yet to me so dear so dearG
Ah fare thee well and may'st thou ne'erG
Be doomed to sigh like meD
