o'er all and thro' all we shall hieA
With the cry 'I P an and Echo the strainB
From her cave 'I P an ' enraptured shall cryC
-
The storm may set in and the summer may goD
But the while winter winds in the rafters yet roarE
Will a gleam in the cloud and a bloom in the snowD
Give a pledge of a glory girt future in storeE
-
In Pandora's Box Hope was left and in factF
As long as the world on its axis shall moveG
The Parc from mortals will never exactF
What a ban not a boon in the sequel will proveG
-
Not only our manfold evils externeD
But the ashes fill'd apples by error pluck'd theyH
Even they emanate from a fountain superneD
And will prove to be true golden apples one dayH
-
Thro' the regions of Erebus lay the rough roadI
By which the brave passed to the Fields of the BlestJ
Yet once having enter'd Jove's envied abodeI
The trouble made sweeter the pleasure possesstI
-
Dragon watched was the idol of Jason's desireK
Yet a triumph awaited the noble and wiseL
And as sure as the faggot but heatens the fireK
As sure did the danger but brighten the prizeL
-
Creation itself from a chaos was bornD
So sang the Illumed of the centuries fledI
And At herself to an Eros would turnD
If aright the vast drift of existence were readI
-
Nay neither the gloom that o'er shadows our skiesL
Nor the danger that lies on the path to our goalM
Nor the keenest of pangs need awaken our sighsL
From woe the soul wrings the delight of the soulM
-
Triumphant o'er trouble triumphant o'er painD
Triumphant o'er all and thro' all we shall hieA
With the cry 'I P an ' and Echo the strainD
From her cave 'I P an ' enraptured shall cryC
