Away To The Well Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD CDCD ABAB

AWAY to the well lilted AnnieA
Away with her skiel to the wellB
Away to the well whistled JohnnieA
The pride and delight of the dellB
-
Sweet sweet is the well but ah sweeterC
The words of the silver tongued elfD
I counsel the youth who shall meet herC
To keep a strict guard on himselfD
-
Deep deep is the well but ah deeperC
The guile of the silver tongued elfD
And the laugher she'll turn to a weeperC
Unless he look well to himselfD
-
'Twas thus proved the mortal to JohnnieA
Lo pale now he wanders the dellB
Pale pale with the potion that AnnieA
Had caused him to drink at the wellB
