Old man rocking in his chairA
night taking from the dayB
tomorrow's hazeC
This morning his life to bayB
The walk we takeD
through Alfalfa fieldsE
rough in wind bent face treesF
A hive of honeyG
the leaves falling in the windH
a wet sky the light sun ray shinningD
through braided cloudsI
In my Grandmother's houseJ
next to the cookie jarK
an old picture of a henL
and her rooster sitting in the school yardM
Bullet your old ShepherdN
an all those darn catsO
running in and out of the barnP
while you were milkingD
I remember takingD
the old rusty beige urnsO
down to the creekD
To keep them cold until the Dairy truckD
would come by to pick em upQ
-
Your gaze Grandfather was enoughR
to dare any of us kids into doing our choresO
of course you knew thatS
I really enjoyedT
the rides on your old tractorU
and playing Cowboys and IndiansO
out in the back pasturesO
Setting up ambushes for my cousinsO
when they would come over to playB
The elkD
on the west ridge where weG
hunted he's older nowV
Grandfather and you knowW
I reckon you were right TheyB
don't give a dam Good FishingD
