Undecaying Fruit Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK HLHL MNMN OPOP

Doomed to decay are all things hereA
Whate'er their form or worthB
Color and beauty disappearC
Or turn to mother earthB
-
The luscious fruits which please the tasteD
And please the eye as wellE
Sometimes reduced to rot and wasteD
Ere from the tree they fellE
-
Some gathered with a gentle handF
And stored away with careG
To serve a place in banquet grandF
Some favorite peach or pearG
-
Is found diseased in skin and coreH
And loathsome to the sightI
When 'tis too late to gather moreH
And comes the festal nightI
-
So is it with all earthly joyJ
It pleases for a timeK
As toy may please a growing boyJ
Though costing but a dimeK
-
But soon he tires and asks for moreH
Appropriate to his ageL
So though a man may higher soarH
And greater aims engageL
-
His active mind he like the childM
Soon looks for something newN
Too oft are men by this beguiledM
And fail to find the trueN
-
But he who goes to Christ for restO
Finds fruit that ne'er decaysP
He sups with Christ as welcome guestO
And glory crowns his daysP
