The Royal Way Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDEC FGGF HBBH IJJI BKKB LMML NOON

Perfection ever is the price of toilA
Of marchings long and hardships by the wayB
Of burdens borne oft in the heat of dayB
'Tis then as right the victor claims the spoilA
-
The world admires the wreath upon his browC
But he alone can tell how much it costD
And how to gain it he had all things lostE
Results men see but not the when or howC
-
The stately elm which rears its head so highF
And spreads abroad so gracefully its boughsG
Beneath which may repose a herd of cowsG
Grows under ground as well as toward the skyF
-
The bridge which spans the swiftly flowing streamH
O'er which the iron horse by night and dayB
With heavy tread speeds on its busy wayB
Rests not on sand nor slender post and beamH
-
Below the shifting sand on solid rockI
The mason safely laid the buttress stoneJ
And labored long before his work was shownJ
But he built well his work endures each shockI
-
This work takes time we chafe at the delayB
And try to gain the summit at a boundK
But find full soon our hopes dashed to the groundK
Yet there remains for all the royal wayB
-
And he who would true eminence attainL
Must heed the word of Him who came to serveM
Nor from this path a single moment swerveM
If he the great reward would surely gainL
-
This is the royal way to serve in loveN
Servant to servants ever aim to beO
Like Him who gave His life to ransom theeO
Then shalt thou sit with Him on throne aboveN
