The Real Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGHHIIJJKLMM

The leaf is faded and decayed the flowerA
The birds have ceased to sing in wayside bowerA
The babbling brook is silenced by the coldB
And hill and vale the frost and snow enfoldB
The life we see seems hasting to the tombC
Nor sun nor star relieves the dismal gloomC
The good man suffers with the base and vileD
And honesty and truth give place to guileD

Things are not always as they seem to beE
The outer surface only man may seeE
The summer sleeps beneath the quilt of snowF
Behind the clouds is hid the solar glowF
The babbling brook will burst its icy bandsG
And birds will sing and trees will clap their handsG
The fallen leaf has left a bud behindH
And flowers will bloom of brightest hue and kindH
For when we look beneath the outward crustI
With vision clear and free from worldly lustI
We will behold a brighter world than thisJ
With less of curse and much of noble blissJ
For God's kind hand in all our conflicts hereK
Is clearly seen and doubts must disappearL
The end He has in view is most benignM
The fire will dross consume and gold refineM
