The Heroes Of Our Day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL MNMN OPOP

Heroic deeds in every ageA
Command the world's esteemB
Each finds a place in history's pageA
'Midst gloom a glory beamB
-
And we full oft revert to thisC
To show man's true descentD
From Him who is the source of blissC
Tho' now by passions rentD
-
But we need not consult the pastE
The present bears this fruitF
The hero race will ever lastE
The tree is sound at rootF
-
And never has the world excelledG
The present in this lineH
Our loving Lord has not withheldG
From us this trait divineH
-
And we should not from them withholdI
The praise we feel is dueJ
For deeds of love and actions boldI
For spirit kind and trueJ
-
Their worth we now should recognizeK
Not chant it o'er their gravesL
The hero of the past we prizeK
No less the man who bravesL
-
The dangers of the present hourM
The sneers which now are rifeN
Not for the sake of earthly powerM
Nor yet to save his lifeN
-
But for the good of fellow manO
And for his Master's sakeP
He shuns no cross and fears no banO
'Tis these a hero makeP
