The Grandest Theme Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB BBBB CDCD AEAE FDFD GEGE

The grandest theme for tongue or penA
Is not the heavens supernalB
Nor mighty deeds of God like menA
Though they may be eternalB
-
Nor Alpine heights nor lovely valeB
With brooks and grazing cattleB
Nor awful roar of rushing galeB
Beyond the noise of battleB
-
Nor clashing arms nor trembling earthC
Nor heaving waves of oceanD
Nor record of a nation's birthC
Nor heaven's cloud cars in motionD
-
The grandest theme for tongue or penA
Above all else in gloryE
Which suits alike all sinful menA
Is the sweet Gospel storyE
-
Which tells me of my Saviour's loveF
And infinite compassionD
Which brought Him from His throne aboveF
To Calvary's cross and passionD
-
And now the holy angels singG
With blood washed souls in gloryE
A song which makes heaven's arches ringG
About this Gospel storyE
