| In the paper's darkened hue | E |
| Though the words could not be seen | B |
| You could trace where they had been | F |
| - | |
| I will try to do my best | G |
| Though my ideal be not gained | H |
| On the Master's scrip shall rest | G |
| Eager eyes till is attained | H |
| Some resemblance to His hand | I |
| If no more I can command | I |
| - | |
| Like my life this written sheet | J |
| So unlike the pattern given | K |
| Crooked strokes I oft repeat | J |
| Oh that from it could be riven | K |
| All the blurs and blots of sin | F |
| All the self that's found within | F |
| - | |
| I can not the past erase | D |
| Christ shall blot the crooked out | L |
| Leaving not the slightest trace | D |
| Of my sin the lines about | L |
| And will give me grace to write | M |
| Pages pleasing in His sight | M |
| - | |
| I will try to do my best | G |
| As He gives me strength and light | M |
| Leaving with Him all the rest | G |
| He will keep life's pages white | M |
| And the copy shall be shown | N |
| Perfected before His throne | N |
