The Copy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEBF GHGHII JKJKFF DLDLMM GMGMNN

Looking o'er this written pageA
Many blurs and blots are seenB
Crooked strokes at every stageA
Oh that it again were cleanB
As at first I found it whenC
I defiled it with my penC
-
Gladly would I all eraseD
But along the lines of blueE
You could still the failure traceD
In the paper's darkened hueE
Though the words could not be seenB
You could trace where they had beenF
-
I will try to do my bestG
Though my ideal be not gainedH
On the Master's scrip shall restG
Eager eyes till is attainedH
Some resemblance to His handI
If no more I can commandI
-
Like my life this written sheetJ
So unlike the pattern givenK
Crooked strokes I oft repeatJ
Oh that from it could be rivenK
All the blurs and blots of sinF
All the self that's found withinF
-
I can not the past eraseD
Christ shall blot the crooked outL
Leaving not the slightest traceD
Of my sin the lines aboutL
And will give me grace to writeM
Pages pleasing in His sightM
-
I will try to do my bestG
As He gives me strength and lightM
Leaving with Him all the restG
He will keep life's pages whiteM
And the copy shall be shownN
Perfected before His throneN
