She Dearly Loved The Flowers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJKIKI LILIIIII

I saw her first when she was oldA
Her form devoid of graceB
Her locks that once were yellow goldA
Were white and on her faceB
Were furrows deep which told of painC
And toil and worldly fretD
Which all alas had been in vainC
But nature claimed the debtD
-
Her eyes were gray and lacked in glowE
Her voice some thought was gruffF
And when excited was not slowE
To use a sharp rebuffF
For she in speech was free from artG
Men feared her verbal strokeH
And yet they said She has a heartG
She never wears a cloakH
-
Her creed perhaps was heterodoxI
If creed she ever hadJ
She knew far more of pans and crocksI
But this was not her fadJ
Her light I fear did not shine outK
In pious talk and airsI
In fact I entertain a doubtK
If she oft said her prayersI
-
Her light if dim was never hidL
Yet looked not for applauseI
For kindly deeds she often didL
In line with highest lawsI
She lacked it may be that rare graceI
Which some I know endowersI
Yet good in her I gladly traceI
She dearly loved the flowersI
