She Dearly Loved The Flowers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJKIKI LILIIIIII saw her first when she was old | A |
Her form devoid of grace | B |
Her locks that once were yellow gold | A |
Were white and on her face | B |
Were furrows deep which told of pain | C |
And toil and worldly fret | D |
Which all alas had been in vain | C |
But nature claimed the debt | D |
- | |
Her eyes were gray and lacked in glow | E |
Her voice some thought was gruff | F |
And when excited was not slow | E |
To use a sharp rebuff | F |
For she in speech was free from art | G |
Men feared her verbal stroke | H |
And yet they said She has a heart | G |
She never wears a cloak | H |
- | |
Her creed perhaps was heterodox | I |
If creed she ever had | J |
She knew far more of pans and crocks | I |
But this was not her fad | J |
Her light I fear did not shine out | K |
In pious talk and airs | I |
In fact I entertain a doubt | K |
If she oft said her prayers | I |
- | |
Her light if dim was never hid | L |
Yet looked not for applause | I |
For kindly deeds she often did | L |
In line with highest laws | I |
She lacked it may be that rare grace | I |
Which some I know endowers | I |
Yet good in her I gladly trace | I |
She dearly loved the flowers | I |
