My Sister Nell And I Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

We strolled down by the river sideA
My sister Nell and IB
To watch the waters onward glideA
And vessels passing byB
-
On Nature's floor of lovely greenC
Bedecked with flowers of goldD
The purple sassafras as sheenC
Which trumpet vines enfoldD
-
We played our youthful games for hoursE
And told our childish talesF
Adorned each brow with fragrant flowersE
And slept 'neath cooling galesF
-
For I was then but nine years oldD
And she was only sevenG
Yet joys like ours can ne'er be toldD
They savored much of heavenG
-
Close by the bank in shady nooksH
The waxen lilies grewI
We called them fish and with our hooksH
To shore full many drewI
-
With these I made a wreath for NellJ
She was so good and pureK
They seemed to suit her brow so wellJ
Yet could not long endureK
-
The heated brow and dewless airL
The river suits them bestM
But graced awhile her golden hairL
As dove would silken nestM
-
Frail like the lilies too was NellJ
The fever's scorching blastN
Swept by and my fair flowerette fellJ
And to the dust was castN
-
But now she blooms in glory landO
Close by the tree of LifeP
Better to bloom at God's right handO
Than in this world of strifeP
-
I hope some day to meet her thereL
And as in days of yoreQ
We plucked the lilies pure and fairL
Up there we'll gather moreQ
