IsaiahA
-
-
Tossed about in strange commotionB
Like the surface of the oceanB
When the wind its waters lashingC
Sends great billows roaring dashingC
O'er the breakers which for agesD
Have withstood the storms it wagesD
See those clouds so like this oceanB
How they whirl in strange commotionB
-
Dust and vapor now are meetingC
Each the other wildly greetingC
As one hand another graspingC
So are these each other claspingC
Now they whirl in form fantasticC
And great trees with boughs elasticC
With loud moans are lowly bendingC
Leaves and fruit to earth descendingC
-
Eyes 'most blinded nerves all shakenB
By this fearful storm o'ertakenB
As it swept on toward the sunriseE
Yet I chanced to lift my dim eyesE
Upward when O sight entrancingC
I beheld to west advancingC
Other clouds in higher currentF
Unlike earth's so wild and errantF
-
Far above the wild commotionB
Like great ships on peaceful oceanB
Floating westward grand and steadyG
Were those clouds as if made readyG
As great cars with grand pavilionsH
To convey the ransomed millionsH
From this earth where storms are ragingC
To that land of charms engagingC
-
Life on earth is a probationB
Storms fit well in this relationB
Yet above are peaceful regionsH
Where ne'er come hell's dreaded legionsH
Looking toward the things eternalI
We may rise to realms supernalI
Where earth's dust will not defile usJ
Nor the cunning foe beguile usJ
-
To this higher plain O lift meG
Gracious Lord ere Satan sift meG
Far above this noisy BabelI
Far above earth's clouds all sableI
Up so far no darts can reach meG
Where the Holy Ghost will teach meG
And in perfect peace abidingC
I will sing while heavenward ridingC
