God's Foot On The Cradle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IHIHJFJF

The air is chill with the frost of doubtA
And men's hearts are sadly failingB
They do not hear the great Victor's shoutA
But indulge in bitter wailingB
The old gives place to the new they sayC
And fond hopes are daily buriedD
Our cherished views are oft borne awayC
As if by the tempest hurriedD
-
The world is stirred to its very heartE
And the Church shares the commotionF
With systems old we are loathe to partE
To sail on an unknown oceanF
The world now heaves like the great sea's breastG
And rocks like an infant's cradleH
And looking up by sore grief oppressedG
We find the sky draped in sableH
-
I will not fear though the earth should rockI
If God's foot be on the cradleH
But rest in peace midst the tempest's shockI
Rejoicing that God is ableH
To still the world with His mighty handJ
If His timid child should wakenF
Or if it rock He will by me standJ
And my heart shall not be shakenF
