Jose Marti Books, Jose Marti poetry book Rubens Authors: Alexander Vergara, Herlinda Cabrero, Jaime Garcia-Maiquez, Carmen Garrido
Publisher: Paul Holberton Pub
Published Date: 2004
Categories: Art
In 1609 Rubens painted a large Adoration of the Magi for the Antwerp Town Hall. The painting made its way to the King of Spain and Rubens, arriving at the Spanish court in 1628, repainted, extended and refashioned the picture to his own satisfaction (incorporating a self-portrait). The painting, now in the collection of the Prado, incorporates a dialogue by the painter himself. The picture has been newly conserved, and following the dialogue has been made easier by the existence of a copy in a private collection of the 1609 version of the much altered work. It has been the fascinating task of Prado curator Alejandro Vergara and the Prado conservation department to investigate the changes Rubens made and their motivation, while Joost vander Auwara provides a new analysis, employing new documents and rereading known ones, of the intentions and iconography of the original Antwerp commission.

José Martí occupies a central place in Latin American letters, and he is an unparalleled foundational figure in Cuban culture. Martí's writing shaped a hemispheric consciousness in the Americas, and as national poet and patriotic "apostle," he is revered by generations of Cubans everywhere. As essayist, journalist, and revolutionary, Martí fought for Cuban independence and helped defend the ideal of Latin American autonomy against empires old and new. This ground-breaking two-volume work offers the most comprehensive collection of Mart´i's prose work available in English. Where recent translations have offered selective anthologies of Martí's writing, this edition offers a key archive of essays, journalism, speeches, political documents, and historic correspondence, many translated for the first time.

Jose Marti Books, Jose Marti poetry book Frank Pais Authors: Jose Alvarez
Publisher: Universal-Publishers
Published Date: 2009
Categories: Biography & Autobiography
Even though Fidel Castro founded the "26 of July" movement, this book shows that the organizing throughout Cuba fell on the shoulders of an underground leader named Frank Pais, who was also responsible for the survival of the incipient guerrilla force led by Castro in the Sierra Maestra. Pais became not only the National Chief of Action-as portrayed in the official publications-but the top leader of the M-26-7's National Directorate. The antagonism between Castro and Pais may have been the reason for his mysterious death when he was only 22 years of age. This is the true story of his life and legacy. At this crucial time, when historians are trying to arrive at the revolution's final balance, a book like this is essential to read before reaching an impartial verdict.

Andrew Lang Poem
Ballade Of The Midnight Forest
 by Andrew Lang

Still sing the mocking fairies, as of old,
Beneath the shade of thorn and holly-tree;
The west wind breathes upon them, pure and cold,
And wolves still dread Diana roaming free
In secret woodland with her company.
'Tis thought the peasants' hovels know her rite
When now the wolds are bathed in silver light,
And first the moonrise breaks the dusky grey,
...
