To The Painted Columbine Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IFIF JKJK LMLM NGNG FOFO

Bright image of the early yearsA
When glowed my cheek as red as thouB
And life's dark throng of cares and fearsA
Were swift winged shadows o'er my sunny browB
-
Thou blushest from the painter's pageC
Robed in the mimic tints of artD
But Nature's hand in youth's green ageC
With fairer hues first traced thee on my heartD
-
The morning's blush she made it thineE
The morn's sweet breath she gave it theeF
And in thy look my ColumbineE
Each fond remembered spot she bade me seeF
-
I see the hill's far gazing headG
Where gay thou noddest in the galeH
I hear light bounding footsteps treadG
The grassy path that winds along the valeH
-
I hear the voice of woodland songI
Break from each bush and well known treeF
And on light pinions borne alongI
Comes back the laugh from childhood's heart of gleeF
-
O'er the dark rock the dashing brookJ
With look of anger leaps againK
And hastening to each flowery nookJ
Its distant voice is heard far down the glenK
-
Fair child of art thy charms decayL
Touched by the withered hand of TimeM
And hushed the music of that dayL
When my voice mingled with the streamlet's chimeM
-
But on my heart thy cheek of bloomN
Shall live when Nature's smile has fledG
And rich with memory's sweet perfumeN
Shall o'er her grave thy tribute incense shedG
-
There shalt thou live and wake the gleeF
That echoed on thy native hillO
And when loved flower I think of theeF
My infant feet will seem to seek thee stillO
