The Son Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGG

Father I wait thy word The sun doth standA
Beneath the mingling line of night and dayB
A listening servant waiting thy commandA
To roll rejoicing on its silent wayB
The tongue of time abides the appointed hourC
Till on our ear its silent warnings fallD
The heavy cloud withholds the pelting showerC
Then every drop speeds onward at thy callD
The bird reposes on the yielding boughE
With breast unswollen by the tide of songF
So does my spirit wait thy presence nowE
To pour thy praise in quickening life alongF
Chiding with voice divine man s lengthened sleepG
While round the Unuttered Word and Love their vigils keepG
