The Soldier Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFGFHH

He was not armed like those of eastern climeA
Whose heavy axes felled their heathen foeB
Nor was he clad like those of later timeA
Whose breast worn cross betrayed no cross belowB
Nor was he of the tribe of Levi bornC
Whose pompous rites proclaim how vain their prayerD
Whose chilling words are heard at night and mornC
Who rend their robes but still their hearts would spareD
But he nor steel nor sacred robe had onE
Yet went he forth in God's almighty powerF
He spoke the word whose will is ever doneG
From day's first dawn till earth's remotest hourF
And mountains melted from his presence downH
And hell affrighted fled before his frownH
