The air is tainted with the noisome breath | A |
The wind from off the field of slaughter brings | B |
Alas no mourners weep them for the slain | C |
But all unburied lies the naked soul | D |
The whitening bones of thousands strew the plain | C |
Yet none can now the pestilence control | D |
The eagles gathering on the carcase feed | E |
In every heart behold their half formed prey | F |
The battened wills beneath their talons bleed | E |
Their iron beaks without remorse must slay | F |
Till by the sun no more the place is seen | G |
Where they who worshipped idol gods have been | H |
