| But all unburied lies the naked soul | D |
| The whitening bones of thousands strew the plain | C |
| Yet none can now the pestilence control | D |
| The eagles gathering on the carcase feed | E |
| In every heart behold their half formed prey | F |
| The battened wills beneath their talons bleed | E |
| Their iron beaks without remorse must slay | F |
| Till by the sun no more the place is seen | G |
