The Eagles Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGH

THE eagles gather on the place of deathA
So thick the ground is spotted with their wingsB
The air is tainted with the noisome breathA
The wind from off the field of slaughter bringsB
Alas no mourners weep them for the slainC
But all unburied lies the naked soulD
The whitening bones of thousands strew the plainC
Yet none can now the pestilence controlD
The eagles gathering on the carcase feedE
In every heart behold their half formed preyF
The battened wills beneath their talons bleedE
Their iron beaks without remorse must slayF
Till by the sun no more the place is seenG
Where they who worshipped idol gods have beenH
