BEING AN EXCELLENT NEW SONG SUPPOSED TO BE MADE AND SUNG IN THE STREETS OF DUBLIN BY WILLIAM WOOD IRONMONGER AND HALFPENNY MONGERA
-
-
My dear Irish folksB
Come leave off your jokesB
And buy up my halfpence so fineC
So fair and so brightD
They'll give you delightD
Observe how they glisten and shineC
-
They'll sell to my griefE
As cheap as neck beefE
For counters at cards to your wifeF
And every dayG
Your children may playG
Span farthing or toss on the knifeF
-
Come hither and tryH
I'll teach you to buyH
A pot of good ale for a farthingI
Come threepence a scoreJ
I ask you no moreJ
And a fig for the Drapier and HardingI
-
When tradesmen have goldK
The thief will be boldK
By day and by night for to rob himL
My copper is suchM
No robber will touchM
And so you may daintily bob himL
-
The little blackguardK
Who gets very hardK
His halfpence for cleaning your shoesN
When his pockets are cramm'dK
With mine and be d dK
He may swear he has nothing to loseN
-
Here's halfpence in plentyK
For one you'll have twentyK
Though thousands are not worth a puddenC
Your neighbours will thinkO
When your pocket cries chinkO
You are grown plaguy rich on a suddenC
-
You will be my thankersN
I'll make you my bankersN
As good as Ben Burton or FadeK
For nothing shall passN
But my pretty brassN
And then you'll be all of a tradeK
-
I'm a son of a whoreJ
If I have a word moreJ
To say in this wretched conditionC
If my coin will not passN
I must die like an assN
And so I conclude my petitionC
