On The Irish Club. [1] Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAABBCCDDEFGHIJKKAA KKAALMNNAO

Ye paltry underlings of stateA
Ye senators who love to prateA
Ye rascals of inferior noteA
Who for a dinner sell a voteA
Ye pack of pensionary peersB
Whose fingers itch for poets' earsB
Ye bishops far removed from saintsC
Why all this rage Why these complaintsC
Why against printers all this noiseD
This summoning of blackguard boysD
Why so sagacious in your guessesE
Your effs and tees and arrs and essesF
Take my advice to make you safeG
I know a shorter way by halfH
The point is plain remove the causeI
Defend your liberties and lawsJ
Be sometimes to your country trueK
Have once the public good in viewK
Bravely despise champagne at courtA
And choose to dine at home with portA
Let prelates by their good behaviourK
Convince us they believe a SaviourK
Nor sell what they so dearly boughtA
This country now their own for noughtA
Ne'er did a true satiric museL
Virtue or innocence abuseM
And 'tis against poetic rulesN
To rail at men by nature foolsN
ButA
O
