That poisonous juice which kills by cold | A |
Methought when I this poem read | B |
No vessel but an ass's head | B |
Such frigid fustian could contain | C |
I mean the head without the brain | C |
The cold conceits the chilling thoughts | D |
Went down like stupifying draughts | E |
I found my head begin to swim | F |
A numbness crept through every limb | F |
In haste with imprecations dire | G |
I threw the volume in the fire | H |
When who could think though cold as ice | I |
It burnt to ashes in a trice | I |
How could I more enhance its fame | J |
Though born in snow it died in flame | J |
