| The cold conceits the chilling thoughts | D |
| Went down like stupifying draughts | E |
| I found my head begin to swim | F |
| A numbness crept through every limb | F |
| In haste with imprecations dire | G |
| I threw the volume in the fire | H |
| When who could think though cold as ice | I |
| It burnt to ashes in a trice | I |
| How could I more enhance its fame | J |
| Though born in snow it died in flame | J |
