Drapier's-hill.[1] Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIIEEWe give the world to understand | A |
Our thriving Dean has purchased land | A |
A purchase which will bring him clear | B |
Above his rent four pounds a year | B |
Provided to improve the ground | C |
He will but add two hundred pound | C |
And from his endless hoarded store | D |
To build a house five hundred more | D |
Sir Arthur too shall have his will | E |
And call the mansion Drapier's Hill | E |
That when a nation long enslaved | F |
Forgets by whom it once was saved | F |
When none the Drapier's praise shall sing | G |
His signs aloft no longer swing | G |
His medals and his prints forgotten | H |
And all his handkerchiefs are rotten | H |
His famous letters made waste paper | I |
This hill may keep the name of Drapier | I |
In spite of envy flourish still | E |
And Drapier's vie with Cooper's Hill | E |
