Zaccheus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDD EFGFHH IJIKLM ANANOO PQRQSS TUVUWW

Zaccheus climbed the treeA
And thought himself unknownB
But how surprised was heA
When Jesus called him downC
The Lord beheld him though concealedD
And by a word his pow'r revealedD
-
Wonder and joy at onceE
Were painted in his faceF
Does he my name pronounceG
And does he know my caseF
Will Jesus deign with me to dineH
Lord I with all I have am thineH
-
Thus where the gospel's preachedI
And sinners come to hearJ
The hearts of some are reachedI
Before they are awareK
The word directly speaks to themL
And seems to point them out by nameM
-
'Tis curiosityA
Oft brings them in the wayN
Only the man to seeA
And hear what he can sayN
But how the sinner starts to findO
The preacher knows his inmost mindO
-
His long forgotten faultsP
Are brought again in viewQ
And all his secret thoughtsR
Revealed in public tooQ
Though compassed with a crowd aboutS
The searching word has found him outS
-
While thus distressing painT
And sorrow fills his heartU
He hears a voice againV
That bids his fears departU
Then like Zaccheus he is blestW
And Jesus deigns to be his guestW
