Woman Of Canaan Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL MHMH NONO PBPB

Prayer an answer will obtainA
Though the Lord awhile delayB
None shall seek his face in vainA
None be empty sent awayB
-
When the woman came from TyreC
And for help to Jesus soughtD
Though he granted her desireE
Yet at first he answered notF
-
Could she guess at his intentG
When he to his follow'rs saidH
I to Israel's sheep am sentG
Dogs must not have children's breadH
-
She was not of Israel's seedI
But of Canaan's wretched raceJ
Thought herself a dog indeedI
Was not this a hopeless caseJ
-
Yet although from Canaan sprungK
Though a dog herself she styledL
She had Israel's faith and tongueK
And was owned for Abraham's childL
-
From his words she draws a pleaM
Though unworthy children's breadH
'Tis enough for one like meM
If with crumbs I may be fedH
-
Jesus then his heart revealedN
Woman canst thou thus believeO
I to thy petition yieldN
All that thou canst wish receiveO
-
'Tis a pattern set for usP
How we ought to wait and prayB
None who plead and wrestle thusP
Shall be empty sent awayB
