We Were Pharaoh's Bondmen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG HIHI JKJK LMLN OPQP

Beneath the tyrant Satan's yokeA
Our souls were long oppressedB
Till grace our galling fetters brokeA
And gave the weary restB
-
Jesus in that important hourC
His mighty arm made knownD
He ransomed us by price and pow'rE
And claimed us for his ownD
-
Now freed from bondage sin and deathF
We walk in Wisdom's waysG
And wish to spend our every breathF
In wonder love and praiseG
-
Ere long we hope with him to dwellH
In yonder world aboveI
And now we only live to tellH
The riches of his loveI
-
O might we ere we hence removeJ
Prevail upon our youthK
To seek that they may likewise proveJ
His mercy and his truthK
-
Like Simeon we shall gladly goL
When Jesus calls us homeM
If they are left a seed belowL
To serve him in our roomN
-
Lord hear our prayer indulge our hopeO
On these thy Spirit pourP
That they may take our story upQ
When we can speak no moreP
