Waiting For Spring Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK LMLM NONO PQPQ

Though cloudy skies and northern blastsA
Retard the gentle spring awhileB
The sun will conqu'ror prove at lastC
And nature wear a vernal smileB
-
The promise which from age to ageD
Has brought the changing seasons roundE
Again shall calm the winter's rageD
Perfume the air and paint the groundE
-
The virtue of that first commandF
I know still does and will prevailG
That while the earth itself shall standF
The spring and summer shall not failG
-
Such changes are for us decreedH
Believers have their winters tooI
But spring shall certainly succeedH
And all their former life renewI
-
Winter and spring have each their useJ
And each in turn his people knowK
One kills the weeds their hearts produceJ
The other makes their graces growK
-
Though like dead trees awhile they seemL
Yet having life within their rootM
The welcome spring's reviving beamL
Draws forth their blossoms leaves and fruitM
-
But if the tree indeed be deadN
It feels no change though spring returnO
Its leafless naked barren headN
Proclaims it only fit to burnO
-
Dear Lord afford our souls a springP
Thou know'st our winter has been longQ
Shine forth and warm our hearts to singP
And thy rich grace shall be our songQ

Dr. Bob Griffin: Loving the topic and application as gloomy weather (outside and in my rapidly-aging heart) persists and Spring seems far away, this was very, very needed.
