Vanity Of The Creature Sanctified Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EFGG HHII JJKL MNOP QQRR IIGG

Honey though the bee preparesA
An envenomed sting he wearsA
Piercing thorns a guard composeB
Round the fragrant blooming roseB
-
Where we think to find a sweetC
Oft a painful sting we meetC
When the rose invites our eyeD
We forget the thorn is nighD
-
Why are thus our hopes beguiledE
Why are all our pleasures spoiledF
Why do agony and woeG
From our choicest comforts growG
-
Sin has been the cause of allH
'Twas not thus before the fallH
What but pain and thorn and stingI
From the root of sin can springI
-
Now with every good we findJ
Vanity and grief entwinedJ
What we feel or what we fearK
All our joys embitter hereL
-
Yet through the Redeemer's loveM
These afflictions blessings proveN
He the wounding stings and thornsO
Into healing med'cines turnsP
-
From the earth our hearts they weanQ
Teach us on his arm to leanQ
Urge us to a throne of graceR
Make us seek a resting placeR
-
In the mansions of our KingI
Sweets abound without a stingI
Thornless there the roses blowG
And the joys unmingled flowG
