Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHIH JKLK MNMN OPOQ RSRS

Jesus to what didst thou submitA
To save thy dear bought flock from hellB
Like a pour trav'ller see him sitA
Athirst and weary by the wellB
-
The woman who for water cameC
What great events on small dependD
Then learnt the glory of his nameC
The Well of life the sinner's FriendD
-
Taught from her birth to hate the JewsE
And filled with party pride at firstF
Her zeal induced her to refuseE
Water to quench the Saviour's thirstF
-
But soon she knew the gift of GodG
And Jesus whom she scorned beforeH
Unasked that drink on her bestowedI
Which whoso tastes shall thirst no moreH
-
His words her prejudice removedJ
Her sin she felt relief she foundK
She saw and heard believed and lovedL
And ran to tell her neighbors roundK
-
O come this wondrous man beholdM
The promised Saviour this is heN
Whom ancient prophecies foretoldM
Born from our guilt to set us freeN
-
Like her in ignorance contentO
I worshipped long I knew not whatP
Like her on other things intentO
I found him when I sought him notQ
-
He told me all that e'er I didR
And told me all was pardoned tooS
And now like her as he has bidR
I live to point him out to youS
