The Two Malefactors Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GGHH IIJK LLMM FFNN

Sovereign grace has pow'r aloneA
To subdue a heart of stoneA
And the moment grace is feltB
Then the hardest heart will meltB
-
When the Lord was crucifiedC
Two transgressors with him diedC
One with vile blaspheming tongueD
Scoffed at Jesus as he hungD
-
Thus he spent his wicked breathE
In the very jaws of deathE
Perished as too many doF
With the Saviour in his viewF
-
But the other touched with graceG
Saw the danger of his caseG
Faith received to own the LordH
Whom the scribes and priests abhorredH
-
Lord he prayed remember meI
When in glory thou shalt beI
Soon with me the Lord repliesJ
Thou shalt rest in paradiseK
-
This was wondrous grace indeedL
Grace vouchsafed in time of needL
Sinners trust in Jesu's nameM
You shall find him still the sameM
-
But beware of unbeliefF
Think upon the hardened thiefF
If the gospel you disdainN
Christ to you will die in vainN
