A Believer free from careA
May in chains or dungeons singB
If the Lord be with him thereA
And he happier than a kingB
Paul and Silas thus confinedC
Though their backs were torn by whipsD
Yet possessing peace of mindC
Sung his praise wish joyful lipsD
-
Suddenly the prison shookE
Open flew the iron doorsF
And the jailer terror struckG
Now his captives' help imploresF
Trembling at their feet he fellH
Tell me Sirs what must I doI
To be saved from guilt and hellH
None can tell me this but youI
-
Look to Jesus they repliedJ
If on Him thou canst believeK
By the death which he has diedJ
Thou salvation shalt receiveK
While the living word he heardL
Faith sprung up within his heartM
And released from all he fearedN
In their joy his soul had partM
-
Sinners Christ is still the sameO
O that you could likewise fearP
Then the mention of his nameO
Would be music to your earQ
Jesus rescues Satan's slavesR
His dear wounds still plead ForgiveS
Jesus to the utmost savesR
Sinners look to him and liveT
