The Lodestone Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEG HIHI JKJK LMNM

As needles point towards the poleA
When touched by the magnetic stoneB
So faith in Jesus gives the soulA
A tendency before unknownB
-
'Till then by blinded passions ledC
In search of fancied good we rangeD
The paths of disappointment treadC
To nothing fixed but love of changeD
-
But when the Holy Ghost impartsE
A knowledge of the Saviour's loveF
Our wand'ring weary restless heartsE
Are fixed at once no more to moveG
-
Now a new principle takes placeH
Which guides and animates the willI
This love another name for graceH
Constrains to good and bars from illI
-
By love's sure light we soon perceiveJ
Our noblest bliss and proper endK
And gladly every idol leaveJ
To love and serve our Lord and FriendK
-
Thus borne along by faith and hopeL
We feel the Saviour's words are trueM
And I if I be lifted upN
Will draw the sinner upward tooM
