The Importunate Widow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFG HIHH JHKH HLHM HNHN DOOO PHQH ROHO

Our Lord who knows full wellA
The heart of every saintB
Invites us by a parableC
To pray and never faintB
-
He bows his gracious earD
We never plead in vainE
Yet we must wait till he appearF
And pray and pray againG
-
Though unbelief suggestH
Why should we longer waitI
He bids us never give him restH
But be importunateH
-
'Twas thus a widow poorJ
Without support or friendH
Beset the unjust judge's doorK
And gained at last her endH
-
For her he little caredH
As little for the lawsL
Nor God nor man did he regardH
Yet he espoused her causeM
-
She urged him day and nightH
Would no denial takeN
At length he said I'll do her rightH
For my own quiet sakeN
-
And shall not Jesus hearD
His chosen when they cryO
Yes though he may awhile forbearO
He'll help them from on highO
-
His nature truth and loveP
Engage him on their sideH
When they are grieved his bowels moveQ
And can they be deniedH
-
Then let us earnest beR
And never faint in prayerO
He loves our importunityH
And makes our cause his careO
