The Heart Taken Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIK LMNM OAOA PQRQ

The castle of the human heartA
Strong in its native sinB
Is guarded well in every partA
By him who dwells withinB
-
For Satan there in arms residesC
And calls the place his ownD
With care against assaults providesC
And rules as on a throneD
-
Each traitor thought on him as chiefE
In blind obedience waitsF
And pride self will and unbeliefE
Are posted at the gatesF
-
Thus Satan for a season reignsG
And keeps his goods in peaceH
The soul is pleased to wear his chainsG
Nor wishes a releaseH
-
But Jesus stronger far than heI
In his appointed hourJ
Appears to set his people freeI
From the usurper's pow'rK
-
This heart I bought with blood he saysL
And now it shall be mineM
His voice the strong one armed dismaysN
He knows he must resignM
-
In spite of unbelief and prideO
And self and Satan's artA
The gates of brass fly open wideO
And Jesus wins the heartA
-
The rebel soul that once withstoodP
The Saviour's kindest callQ
Rejoices now by grace subduedR
To serve him with her allQ
