The Great Tribunal Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJKKKHKH DLDLKKKK HKHKMNMO

John in vision saw the dayA
When the Judge will hasten downB
Heav'n and earth shall flee awayA
From the terror of his frownB
Dead and living small and greatC
Raised from the earth and seaD
At his bar shall hear their fateC
What will then become of meD
-
Can I bear his aweful looksE
Shall I stand in judgment thenF
When I see the opened booksE
Written by th' Almighty's penF
If he to remembrance bringG
And expose to public viewH
Every work and secret thingG
Ah my soul what canst thou doH
-
When the list shall be producedI
Of the talents I enjoyedJ
Means and mercies how abusedK
Time and strength how misemployedK
Conscience then compelled to readK
Must allow the charge is trueH
Say my soul what canst thou pleadK
In that hour what wilt thou doH
-
But the book of life I seeD
May my name be written thereL
Then from guilt and danger freeD
Glad I'll meet him in the airL
That's the book I hope to pleadK
'Tis the gospel opened wideK
Lord I am a wretch indeedK
I have sinned but thou hast diedK
-
Now my soul knows what to doH
Thus I shall with boldness standK
Numbered with the faithful fewH
Owned and saved at thy right handK
If thou help a foolish wormM
To believe thy promise nowN
Justice will at last confirmM
What thy mercy wrought belowO
