The Good That I Would I Do Not Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFH IJKJ LMLM NONO PQPQ MRMS TUTU

I would but cannot singA
Guilt has untuned my voiceB
The serpent sin's envenomed stingA
Has poisoned all my joysC
-
I know the Lord is nighD
And would but cannot prayE
For Satan meets me when I tryD
And frights my soul awayE
-
I would but can't repentF
Though I endeavor oftG
This stony heart can ne'er relentF
Till Jesus make it softH
-
I would but cannot loveI
Though wooed by love divineJ
No arguments have pow'r to moveK
A soul so base as mineJ
-
I would but cannot restL
In God's most holy willM
I know what he appoints is bestL
Yet murmur at it stillM
-
Oh could I but believeN
Then all would easy beO
I would but cannot Lord relieveN
My help must come from theeO
-
But if indeed I wouldP
Though I can nothing doQ
Yet the desire is something goodP
For which my praise is dueQ
-
By nature prone to illM
Till thine appointed hourR
I was as destitute of willM
As now I am of pow'rS
-
Wilt thou not crown at lengthT
The work thou hast begunU
And with a will afford me strengthT
In all thy ways to runU
