How kind the good SamaritanA
To him who fell among the thievesB
Thus Jesus pities fallen manC
And heals the wounds the soul receivesB
-
O I remember well the dayD
When sorely wounded nearly slainE
Like that poor man I bleeding layD
And groaned for help but groaned in vainE
-
Men saw me in this helpless caseF
And passed without compassion byG
Each neighbor turned away his faceF
Unmoved by my mournful cryG
-
But he whose name had been my scornH
As Jews Samaritans despiseI
Came when he saw me thus forlornH
With love and pity in his eyesI
-
Gently he raised me from the groundJ
Pressed me to lean upon his armK
And into every gaping woundJ
He poured his own all healing balmL
-
Unto his church my steps he ledM
The house prepared for sinners lostN
Gave charge I should be clothed and fedM
And took upon him all the costO
-
Thus saved from death from want securedP
I wait till he again shall comeQ
When I shall be completely curedP
And take me to his heav'nly homeR
-
There through eternal boundless daysS
When nature's wheel no longer rollsT
How shall I love adore and praiseS
This good Samaritan to soulsT
