The Garden Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDF GHGH IJKJ LMLM NOPO QRQR STUT

A Garden contemplation suitsA
And may instruction yieldB
Sweeter than all the flow'rs and fruitsA
With which the spot is filledC
-
Eden was Adam's dwelling placeD
While blest with innocenceE
But sin o'erwhelmed him with disgraceD
And drove the rebel thenceF
-
Oft as the garden walk we treadG
We should bemoan his fallH
The trespass of our legal headG
In ruin plunged us allH
-
The garden of GethsemaneI
The second Adam sawJ
Oppressed with woe to set us freeK
From the avenging lawJ
-
How stupid we who can forgetL
With gardens in our sightM
His agonies and bloody sweatL
In that tremendous nightM
-
His church as a fair garden standsN
Which walls of love encloseO
Each tree is planted by his handP
And by his blessing growsO
-
Believing hearts are gardens tooQ
For grace has sown its seedsR
Where once by nature nothing grewQ
But thorns and worthless weedsR
-
Such themes to those who Jesus loveS
May constant joys affordT
And make a barren desert proveU
The garden of the LordT
