The Effort Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH DIDI JKJK

Approach my soul the mercy seatA
Where Jesus answers prayerB
There humbly fall before His feetA
For none can perish thereB
-
Thy promise is my only pleaC
With this I venture nighD
Thou callest burdened souls to TheeC
And such O Lord am ID
-
Bowed down beneath a load of sinE
By Satan sorely pressedF
By wars without and fears withinE
I come to Thee for restF
-
Be Thou my shield and hiding placeG
That sheltered near Thy sideH
I may my fierce Accuser faceG
And tell him Thou hast diedH
-
O wondrous Love to bleed and dieD
To bear the cross and shameI
That guilty sinners such as ID
Might plead Thy gracious nameI
-
Poor tempest tossed soul be stillJ
My promised grace receiveK
'Tis Jesus speaks I must I willJ
I can I do believeK
