The Death Of Stephen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD CCCC CCEE FFAA AAGG

As some tall rock amidst the wavesA
The fury of the tempest bravesA
While the fierce billows toiling highB
Break at its foot and murm'ring dieB
-
Thus they who in the Lord confideC
Though foes assault on every sideC
Cannot he moved or overthrownD
For Jesus makes their cause his ownD
-
So faithful Stephen undismayedC
The malice of the Jews surveyedC
The holy joy which filled his breastC
A lustre on his face impressedC
-
Behold he said the world of lightC
Is opened to my strengthened sightC
My glorious Lord appears in viewE
That Jesus whom ye lately slewE
-
With such a friend and witness nearF
No form of death could make him fearF
Calm amidst show'rs of stones he kneelsA
And only for his murd'rers feelsA
-
May we by faith perceive thee thusA
Dear Saviour ever near to usA
This fight our peace through life shall keepG
And death be feared no more than sleepG
