The Day Of Judgement Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Day of judgement day of wondersA
Hark the trumpet's awful soundB
Louder than a thousand thundersA
Shakes the vast creation roundB
How the summons will the sinner's heart confoundB
-
See the Judge our nature wearingC
Cloth'd in majesty divineD
You who long for his appearingC
Then shall say This God is mineD
Gracious Saviour own me in that day for thineD
-
At his call the dead awakenE
Rise to life from earth and seaF
All the pow'rs of nature shakenE
By his looks prepare to fleeF
Careless sinner what will then become of theeF
-
Horrors past imaginationE
Will surprise your trembling heartG
When you hear your condemnationE
Hence accursed wretch departG
Thou with Satan and his angels have thy partG
-
Satan who now tries to please youH
Lest you timely warning takeI
When that word is past will seize youH
Plunge you in the burning lakeI
Think poor sinner thy eternal all's at stakeI
-
But to those who have confessedJ
Lov'd and serv'd the Lord belowK
He will say Come near ye blessedJ
See the kingdom I bestowK
You for ever shall my love and glory knowK
-
Under sorrows and reproachesF
May this thought your courage raiseF
Swiftly God's great day approachesF
Sighs shall then be chang'd to praiseF
We shall triumph when the world is in a blazeF
