The Book Of Creation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFG HIHI JKLK MNMN OPOQ RSRT

The book of nature open liesA
With much instruction storedB
But till the Lord anoints our eyesA
We cannot read a wordC
-
Philosophers have pored in vainD
And guessed from age to ageE
For reason's eye could ne'er attainD
To understand a pageE
-
Though to each star they give a nameF
Its size and motions teachG
The truths which all the stars proclaimF
Their wisdom cannot reachG
-
With skill to measure earth and seaH
And weigh the subtle airI
They cannot Lord discover theeH
Though present everywhereI
-
The knowledge of the saints excelsJ
The wisdom of the schoolsK
To them his secrets God revealsL
Though men account them foolsK
-
To them the sun and stars on highM
The flow'rs that paint the fieldN
And all the artless birds that flyM
Divine instruction yieldN
-
The creatures on their senses pressO
As witnesses to proveP
Their Saviour's pow'r and faithfulnessO
His providence and loveQ
-
Thus may we study nature's bookR
To make us wise indeedS
And pity those who only lookR
At what they cannot readT
