Beside the gospel poolA
Appointed for the poorB
From year to year my helpless soulC
Has waited for a cureD
-
How often have I seenE
The healing waters moveF
And others round me stepping inG
Their efficacy proveF
-
But my complaints remainH
I feel the very sameI
As full of guilt and fear and painH
As when at first I cameI
-
O would the Lord appearJ
My malady to healK
He knows how long I've languished hereL
And what distress I feelK
-
How often have I thoughtM
Why should I longer lieN
Surely the mercy I have soughtM
Is not for such as IN
-
But whither can I goO
There is no other poolA
Where streams of sovereign virtue flowO
To make a sinner wholeC
-
Here then from day to dayP
I'll wait and hope and tryN
Can Jesus hear a sinner prayP
Yet suffer him to dieN
-
No he is full of graceQ
He never will permitR
A soul that fain would see his faceQ
To perish at his feetS
