The message first to Smyrna sentA
A message full of graceB
To all the Saviour's flock is meantA
In every age and placeB
-
Thus to his church his chosen brideC
Saith the great First and LastD
Who ever lives though once he diedC
Hold thy profession fastD
-
Thy works and sorrows well I knowE
Performed and borne for meF
Poor though thou art despised and lowE
Yet who is rich like theeF
-
I know thy foes and what they sayG
How long they have blasphemedD
The synagogue of Satan theyG
Though they would Jews be deemedD
-
Though Satan for a season rageH
And prisons be your lotD
I am your friend and I engageH
You shall not be forgotD
-
Be faithful unto death nor fearI
A few short days of strifeJ
Behold the prize you soon shall wearK
A crown of endless lifeJ
-
Hear what the holy Spirit saithG
Of all who overcomeL
They shall escape the second deathG
The sinner's aweful doomM
