Satan Returning Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGFG HIJI KLKL MNMO PQRQ

When Jesus claims the sinner's heartA
Where Satan ruled beforeB
The evil spirit must departA
And dares return no moreB
-
But when he goes without constraintC
And wanders from his homeD
Although withdrawn 'tis but a feintC
He means again to comeE
-
Some outward change perhaps is seenF
If Satan quit the placeG
But though the house seem swept and cleanF
'Tis destitute of graceG
-
Except the Saviour dwell and reignH
Within the sinner's mindI
Satan when he returns againJ
Will easy entrance findI
-
With rage and malice sevenfoldK
He then resumes his swayL
No more by checks to be controlledK
No more to go awayL
-
The sinner's former state was badM
But worse the latter farN
He lives possessed and blind and madM
And dies in dark despairO
-
Lord save me from this dreadful endP
And from this heart of mineQ
O drive and keep away the fiendR
Who fears no voice but thineQ
