Salvation Drawing Nearer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDF GHGHIJKJ LMLMNONP QRQSTUTU

Darkness overspreads us hereA
But the night wears fast awayB
Jacob's star will soon appearC
Leading on eternal dayB
Now 'tis time to rouse from sleepD
Trim our lamps and stand preparedE
For our Lord strict watch to keepD
Lest he find us off our guardF
-
Let his people courage takeG
Bear with a submissive mindH
All they suffer for his sakeG
Rich amends they soon will findH
He will wipe away their tearsI
Near himself appoint their lotJ
All their sorrows pains and fearsK
Quickly then wilt be forgotJ
-
Though already saved by graceL
From the hour we first believedM
Yet while sin and war have placeL
We have but a part receivedM
Still we for salvation waitN
Every hour it nearer comesO
Death will break the prison gateN
And admit us to our homesP
-
Sinners what can you expectQ
You who now the Saviour dareR
Break his laws his grace rejectQ
You must stand before his barS
Tremble lest he say DepartT
Oh the horrors of that soundU
Lord make every careless heartT
Seek thee while thou may'st be foundU
