Lovest Thou Me? Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEFE GHGI JKJK LMNM OPQP RSRS TUTU VWVW

'Tis a point I long to knowA
Oft it causes anxious thoughtB
Do I love the Lord or noA
Am I his or am I notC
-
If I love why am I thusD
Why this dull and lifeless frameE
Hardly sure can they be worseF
Who have never heard his nameE
-
Could my heart so hard remainG
Prayer a task and burden proveH
Every trifle give me painG
If I knew a Saviour's loveI
-
When I turn my eyes withinJ
All is dark and vain and wildK
Filled with unbelief and sinJ
Can I deem myself a childK
-
If I pray or hear or readL
Sin is mixed with all I doM
You that love the Lord indeedN
Tell me Is it thus with youM
-
Yet I mourn my stubborn willO
Find my sin a grief and thrallP
Should I grieve for what I feelQ
If I did not love at allP
-
Could I joy his saints to meetR
Choose the ways I once abhorredS
Find at times the promise sweetR
If I did not love the LordS
-
Lord decide the doubtful caseT
Thou who art thy people's sunU
Shine upon thy work of graceT
If it be indeed begunU
-
Let me love thee more and moreV
If I love at all I prayW
If I have not loved beforeV
Help me to begin todayW
